The concept “frontier” has had a substantial importance in the history of United States, especially since 1893, when Frederick Jackson Turner formulated his famous theory. Diverse images have been created from this concept and have become in mystifications or idealizations that have influenced the collective imagination since the origins of the Republic. However, the reality that these images hide does not look like the imagined one. In this paper, we will try to analyse how the New Deal of Franklin Delano Roosevelt involves an overcome of socioeconomic frontiers, and how the myth of the frontier has influenced the cultural stories from the Great Depression in the 30´s. For these purposes, we will focus on the novel and film The Grapes of Wrath, from John Steinbeck and John Ford respectively
