Au-delà des multiples silences...Fictionnaliser la Shoah pour en surmonter la douleur et en perpétuer le souvenir. Le défi de Vincent Engel et de François Lalande-Keil

Abstract

Nacidos en familias judías askenazíes víctimas de la Shoah pero en las que imperaba la ley del silencio, Vincent Engel (1963) y François Lalande-keil (1941) consideran que la ficción es la forma más adecuada y eficaz para transmitir a las generaciones siguientes lo indecible de esa experiencia traumatizante, superar su propio dolor y contemplar el porvenir con serenidad. En nuestro estudio, proponemos mostrar cómo, a través de algunas de sus novelas más emblemáticas en las que el silencio, en sus diversas facetas y significaciones, puede servir de hilo conductor de lectura, ambos escritores belgas cumplen con el deber de memoria que se han impuesto, aceptan el reto que se han propuesto y alcanzan su objetivo de forma sobresaliente

Born to Jewish Ashkenazi families who were victims of the Shoah and ruled by the silence law, Vincent Engel (1963) and François Lalande-keil (1941) consider fiction as the most accurate and efficient way to transmit this unutterate and traumatic experience to the following generations in order to overcome their own suffering and to gaze the future with serenity. In our work, we aim to show how these two Belgian writers fulfill their "duty of memory" imposed by themselves, and accept the challenge and how they achieve their aim through their most significant works where silence is used in various ways as a reading thread
