Abstract
juegan un papel destacado In this work we have carried out a thorough study of the settlement patterns that
characterize the occupation model of the central Guadiana Valley during the I Iron Age.
To this end, we present a framework that encompasses the study of the historiographic
model elaborated after decades of scientific research regarding the Orientalizaing
phenomena, which has traditionally characterized the culture detected in this territory
throughout Protohistory; followed by the analysis of the geographic frame in which our
case study is included, section where we will not only study the geographic aspects of the
territory, but were we will also undertake the deconstruction of concepts such as border
and periphery, two of the terms that have traditionally been related to our scenario.
To be able to elaborate a complete study of a historic period it is always convenient
to revisit the previous periods where they usually have their origin. For this reason we
have included a chapter regarding the Final Bronze Age in the central Guadiana Valley
and another one dedicated to the transition between the Final Bronze Age and I Iron Age.
In this last chapter we recover the debate generated around the use of the concept of
Precolonization , as well as the results obtained from the archaeological excavations
carried out at the site of Cerro Borreguero, which are fundamental for understanding the
arguments for which we advocate in our work.
The main body of the work is comprised by the analysis of the settlement pattern
during the I Iron Age. This analysis begins with the revision of the process of Tartesic
Colonization , which we personally do not consider the most adequate for the
characterization of the process that has been documented in the inlands of the Peninsula
from the VI century B.C. forward. The work is completed by the exposition of all the
settlements that have been analyzed, divided in two blocks: hilltop settlements and
lowland settlements, dividing this last group into Tartesic buildings occult under tumulus,
where we include the results of the excavation of the tumulus of Casas del Turuñuelo ,
and farm-type settlements.
As a result of this analytical work we present in our conclusions a new proposal of
the interpretation of the occupation model of the central Guadiana during the I Iron Age,
model in which the Tartesic buildings occult under tumulus play an important role
