Abstract
propuestas. Among the range of difficulties that people with autism face, we can found the
emotional dysregulation, which means the inability to have a proper emotional
response in some given situations. This influences on the people’s behavior, causing
negative feelings and hindering the communication process. If people is unable to
perceive or properly convey their emotions, they will see increased their behavioral
and social adjustment problems.
While it is true that there are therapies to prevent crisis situations, they often require
the assistance of specialized therapists. This renders the patients’ family unable to
assist with the treatment.
Currently, thanks to mobile applications, we can change the way in which therapies are
applied. Families can now easily find educational material and engage in educational
activities by themselves in a time and place that fits them. However, there are few
applications for emotional regulation and most of them do not detect situations of
crisis, they must be performed manually when needed.
For all the above reasons, we proposed to develop an authoring tool for mobile devices
aimed at emotional self-regulation of people with ASD. The application, called Tic-TacTEA,
have a wear module (smartwatch) to detect situations of crisis, and a mobile
module (smartphone) that allow customization of emotional regulation exercises, that
will be shown on the smartwatch. This customization of strategies is fundamental since
people with autism tend to have overly focused interests.

Autism Tech Solutions call (2015), out of more than 150 proposals.
