Afrontando seriamente el pluralismo religioso y cultural: El renacimiento mundial de la religión y la transformación de la sociedad internacional

Abstract

El renacimiento mundial de la religión y del pluralismo cultural en las relaciones internacionales ha planteado un desafío a la cultura occidental de la modernidad y a las instituciones de la sociedad internacional. Desde este presupuesto, el presente artículo propone un estudio sobre: las causa del renacimiento mundial de la religión, rivalizando así las demandas de autenticidad con las de desarrollo; la genealogía del concepto religión con el fin de demostrar que el “presupuesto westfaliano” se sustenta sobre la invención de la religión realizada por la modernidad occidental; y, finalmente, advierte de la necesidad de abordar la religión desde una aproximación social, si realmente se quiere afrontar con seriedad el alcance del renacimiento mundial de la religión. Para ello, la teoría social de Alasdair MascIntyre y el enfoque de investigación de los teóricos de la Sociedad Internacional o Escuela Inglesa, se presentan como herramientas idóneas para ello

The global resurgence of religion and cultural pluralism in international relations are challenging the Western culture of modernity and the main institutions of international society. From this assumption, the article is focused on the study of: the causes of the global religious resurgence; the genealogy of religion in order to prove that the “Westphalian presumption” is supported by the invention of religion by Western modernity; and, finally, the need to understand the global religious resurgence from a social approach. For this triple purpose, the social theory developed by Alasdair MascIntyre and the Theory of International Society – also called the English School – appear to be suitable tools
