Abstract
Introducción
El estigma, concebido por la población en general en torno a los trastornos de salud mental, afecta no solo a la persona que sufre la enfermedad, sino también a las personas que le rodean, como son familiares, o profesionales que trabajen con ellos.
Objetivos
General: Conocer la situación del estigma que sufren las personas con trastornos de salud mental. Objetivos específicos: Examinar la concepción de la salud mental que tiene la población. Identificar cómo percibe la familia la enfermedad. Saber si existen estrategias de prevención y educación a la población para disminuir el estigma de la población sobre los trastornos de salud mental.
Metodología
Se ha realizado una revisión narrativa, ejecutando las búsquedas bibliográficas en las siguientes bases de datos: Pubmed, Cinahl, y Cuiden. El número final de artículos seleccionados ha sido de 18.
Resultados
El análisis realizado de los artículos muestra como las personas afectadas por enfermedades de salud mental sufren distintas formas de estigmatización y discriminación a diario, por parte de la población general. La familia de la persona con problemas de salud mental adoptará distintos tipos de comportamientos en función de sus creencias, y su cultura. Se han realizado estudios sobre distintos tipos de intervenciones para la reducción del estigma, entre las que destacan las basadas en el contacto directo con personas con trastornos mentales.
Conclusiones
Existe una necesidad de educación dirigida tanto a la población general como, específicamente, a los profesionales sanitarios, sobre la salud mental, con el fin de reducir el estigma. Introduction
The stigma surrounding mental health disorders conceived by the general population affects not only the person that suffers from the disease, but also the people the individual is surrounded by, such as the family or the professionals that work with him or her.
Objectives
General: to know the stigma situation which persons with mental illness suffer. Specific objectives: to evaluate the conception of the mental health that people have, to identify how the family perceives the person with mental illness, to examine if there are prevention and education strategies to reduce the stigma of the population regarding the mental health disorders.
Methodology
A narrative revision has been carried out using the databases Pubmed, Cinahl and Cuiden. Finally, 18 articles have been selected of the bibliographic search.
Results
The analysis of the articles shows how people affected by mental illness suffer different forms of stigmatization and discrimination on a daily basis by the general population. The family of the person with mental health problems will adopt different types of behaviors based on their beliefs and their culture. Studies have been carried out on different types of interventions to reduce the stigma, among which the ones based on direct contact with the people with mental health disorders are to be highlighted.
Conclusions
An education about mental health aimed at the general population and, in particular, focused on the health professionals, is needed in order to reduce the stigma.
