Abstract
Introduction and aim. The aim of the narrative reviwe is to study the published literature on the effectiveness of the implementation of NIDCAP in relation to the evolution and health of the premature and the family.
Methods. Bibliographic searches have been carried out ni databases such as Pubmed, CINAHL, Dialnet, Web of Sciencie, the Virtual Library of Health, CARE, Cochrane-Plus, Scielo, Lilacs and ProQuest, through controlled language and free language. This search was limited to Spanish, English and Portuguese languages, in the time lapse between 2008 and 2018.
Results. After the search, 20 articles were selected, 13 of which were research articles, five were reviews and two, reflective articles. The results were ordered into five thematic groups: neurodevelopment and growth, medical outcomes (duration of hospital stay, ventilation days...), stress and discomfort, premature quality of life of and mothers and fathers support.
Conclusions. The results show contradictory opinions about the effectiveness of NIDCAP. The results obtained on the different topics, show better results in the short term than the long-term ones. Even so, it is difficult to reach a consensus on the effectiveness of the NIDCAP, since several studies contradict each other in certain aspects.
