Entre convivencia y disidencia: Algunas observaciones sobre prácticas y discursos en torno al humor y la ironía en el contexto africano

Abstract

A paradoxical situation typical of sub-Saharan Africa has to do with the co-presence and ubiquity of suffering and even abjection on the one hand and laughter and humour on the other. The explanations that have been proposed in this regard are partial in the sense that either they obviate part of the history of the Africans or they treat the humorous practices separately according to whether they are popular or not. We intent to show that this situation also occurs in the African diaspora and, therefore, cannot be dissociated from an African ethos of humour that is closely linked to what Obadare (2009) calls ‘African zest for life’. More generally, the paper aims at examining the humourous practices, intended as manifestations of this attitude, from the point of view of the functional and formal changes they have gone through in recent history

Una paradoja característica del África subsahariana está basada en la co-presencia y ubicuidad del sufrimiento e incluso de la abyección por un lado y de la risa y el humor por otro. Las explicaciones que se han propuesto al respecto resultan parciales en el sentido de que obvian parte de la historia del colectivo afr(ican)o o bien tratan separadamente las prácticas humorísticas según sean populares o no. Intentamos mostrar que esa situación paradójica también se produce en la diáspora de origen africano y, por tanto, no se puede disociar de un ethos africano del humor que está estrechamente ligado a un entusiasmo vitalista típicamente afr(ican)o (cf. Obadare 2009).
