Abstract
mejorarla. Introduction
The lack of adherence to treatments is one of the main problems that people diagnosed
with schizophrenia present, in spite of the numerous advances in psychopharmacology
achieved during the last years.
Objectives
Acknowledge the current situation of therapeutic adherence in schizophrenia. We will try
to identify the factors that influence the acquisition of therapeutic adherence and describe
the main interventions that enhance the therapeutic adherence in patients diagnosed with
schizophrenia.
Methodology
We have performed a narrative literature review through a bibliographic search in
different databases: Pubmed, Cochrange Librart, Cinahl, Cuiden and Psicodoc. After the
completion of the bibliographic search, 22 articles were selected due to the containment
of relevant information for our work.
Results
The rates of lack of adherence in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia are high. The
factors that influence the lack of therapeutic adherence can be related with the patient,
family and sociocultural conditions. Furthermore, they can be related with the sickness,
the medication, the professionals and with the health system. The main interventions that
may help to improve the therapeutic adherence are the motivational interview, the
psychoeducation and the adherence therapy.
Conclusions
The lack of therapeutic adherence is very common among patients diagnosed with
schizophrenia. The nurses shall undertake the lack of adherence together with the patients,
with the aim of achieving a correct compliance with the treatment. For this purpose, they
must identify the factors that reduce the adherence and establish the most efficient
interventions to improve it.
