This piece of research is based in a case study carried out in two Portuguese public schools and focuses on the role and perceptions of leadership. This study was undertaken with the main purpose to find out the degree of agreement and disagreement between the teachers and the principals regarding the principals' view of themselves and the teachers' perceptions of the principals. The guiding assumption for this project was that the effectiveness of a leader depends, among other factors, on how others view him/her as a leader.
