metodismo. The following article explores the Pan-Americanism and the Protestantism
from the actions of one Methodist, teacher and scientific woman: Adelia Palacios
Mendoza. The importance of studying the participation of this woman in the public,
educative and politic scope lies in the fact that Palacios transgresses the “feminine social
and cultural principles” of her time. At the end of 19th century and at the beginning of the
20th, the period in which Adelia excelled, the prevailing gender order secluded women to
the domestic sphere denying them the access to formal education and their participation
in the public sphere. Palacios was a teacher; she participated in many Pan-American
activities; she travelled, worked for the National Teachers School and for the National
University, and conducted researches about mathematics education as well. That is why
Adelia excelled importantly in the Mexican history of the last years of 19th century and the
beginning of the 20th. On the other hand, both feminine Pan-Americanism and protestant
women participation are unexplored topics in the traditional women historiography. This
article explores three dimensions barely studied that deserve a more extensive analysis;
the educative, the Pan-Americanism and the Methodist
