abusiva regulación y aplicación del derecho de familia In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, coinciding with the
regenerationism movement, it emerged in Spain a small group of thinkers who questioned
the woman status of social and legal inferiority women. Many European and American
countries reformed their laws in matrimonial matters at that time, punishing divorce and
mitigating the female marginalization governed by its laws. Through this work, the aim is
to analyze how one of those intellectuals, the playwright, lawyer and conservative deputy
Manuel Linares-Rivas Astray, with a reformist discourse, presented in his works the need
to adopt absolute divorce, in order to decrease the unhappiness of ill-assorted marriages,
thus showing women´s oppression, and the abusive regulation and enforcement of Family
Law
