El agonismo en el ámbito colonial occidental de la antigua Hélade

Abstract

En este artículo abordaré la participación de las fundaciones coloniales occidentales en las competiciones agonísticas griegas, especialmente las siciliotas y magnogriegas porque del ámbito masaliota no hay demasiada información al respecto. Para ello, estructuraré el texto en dos capítulos principales. En el primero trataré de argumentar cómo Sicilia y el sur de Italia, a pesar de no estar localizados geográficamente en la ya de por sí indefinida Grecia, eran parte indiscutida del mundo griego como demuestra su participación desde muy pronto en esas competiciones caracterizadas por la rigidez con que aceptaban la participación según la condición o no de ser griego. En la última parte desarrollaré temas más concretos vinculados a la presencia de griegos occidentales en los agones, como el viaje y asistencia a los santuarios donde se competía, los resultados obtenidos y un análisis sobre la gran triunfadora Crotona

In this article I will examine the participation of the western colonial foundations in Greek competitions of the agones, specially the Sicilians and Southern Italy poleis because there isn’t enough information from the Marseille region. For that, I’ll classify the article into two main chapters. The first one, I’ll discuss about how Sicily and Southern Italy, in spite of not belonging geographically to the ancient Greece, they were part of the Greek world undisputedly because they participated since the early age in those competitions featured by its severity for accepting an athlete whether he is Greek or not. The second part, I’ll develop more specific topics linked to the presence of western Greeks in the agones, such as the journey and assistance to the sanctuaries where they competed, the results obtained and the analysis about the successful Crotone
