Del Palacio Arias Corvelle a la Casa de Japón

Abstract

El Palacio Arias Corvelle, sede del Centro Cultural Hispano-Japonés de la Universidad de Salamanca, tiene su origen a finales del siglo XV. De su devenir histórico se conocían los hitos más destacados ―su fundación en 1470 por Alonso Arias Corvelle, la leyenda de la “resucitada”1 marquesa de Almarza en el siglo XVIII o su adquisición por parte de la Universidad de Salamanca en el siglo XX, que lo destina a distintos usos académicos hasta llegar al actual―, no existiendo ningún documento que aglutinara toda esta información, a la vez que respondiera a qué sucedió con el palacio entre estos tres momentos. Para conocerlo un poco mejor habría que profundizar en prácticamente todos los aspectos: historia del edificio y de las familias propietarias, las reformas efectuadas y analizar sus elementos artísticos. Así se obtendría un estudio global que nos permitiría conocer uno de los palacios más emblemáticos y desconocidos ―a la vista de la bibliografía― de Salamanca

The Arias Corvelle Palace, nowadays the Hispanic-Japanese Cultural Centre of the University of Salamanca, was built at the end of the 15th century. For many years we only knew a few highlights of its history ― its foundation by Alonso Arias Corvelle in 1470, the legend of the resurrection of the Marchioness of Almarza in the 18th century or its acquisition by the University of Salamanca in the 20th century, who gave it many uses before reaching its current state―. Nevertheless, no documents were found that brought together this information and, at the same time, explained what happened to the Palace between these three moments. Therefore, for a better knowledge of the building it would be necessary to deepen its history and refurbishments, to learn about its owners and to analyze its artistic elements. This way we could achieve a global study that would introduce us to one of the most emblematic and unknown Palaces ―following the bibliography― of Salamanca
