tener hijos). Método: Estudio descriptivo, transversal, realizado en 267 personas, 150 en
edad madura (99 mujeres y 51 hombres) y 117 jóvenes (62 mujeres y 55 hombres).
dc.description.abstract | Objective: This research was aimed to study the meaning of life, anxiety and depression in
the mature woman, compared with mature man and young adults (male and female), in
addition to study whether there is a relationship between these variables and some sociodemographic
(marital status, education level and having children) characteristics. Method:
Descriptive, transversal study conducted on 267 people, 150 in middle age (99 women and
51 men) and 117 young people (62 women and 55 men). To the present study it was
established like the following ages: those being between 35 to 64 years old (middle age) and
those being between 18 to 34 years of age (young adults). The meaning of life, anxiety and
depression were measured respectively, by the Life Purpose Test (LPT) and the HADs scale.
Results: The presence of goals and meaning of life (high meaning of life) reported in more
than 75% in all age groups. In mature woman the meaning of life was superior with respect
to mature men, but less than in young adults (male and female). Mature woman has lower
averages in LPT, compared with the young woman, with significant differences. The lack of
a clear meaning of life was higher in the mature woman. The non-defined area of the
meaning of life was higher in the mature woman and young man. Factorial analysis of the
LPT showed three factors: meaning of life, perception of life and life satisfaction. Between
60 and 70% of the groups did not show anxiety and the possible cases were mainly found in
middle-aged women and young man. Borderline cases of anxiety occurred mainly in women
(mature and young). Mature women without children showed higher anxiety, but the
differences were not significant. The cases of depression were very few. Relationship
between awareness of the meaning of life, age and sex, were not found. There were
statistically significant relationships between the meaning of life and having children, and
negative correlation between the meaning of life, anxiety and depression. Conclusions: The
presence of goals and meaning of life were high in all groups, but the differences were not
significant in the mature woman. The meaning of life was higher in the mature woman with
having children | en_US |
