Abstract

La figura de Habib Estéfano constituye un ejemplo singular de identidad múltiple, construida en un inusual itinerario entre el Oriente árabe, Europa y América. Orador y propagandista de la causa árabe en suelo americano a partir de 1925, su escasa aunque representativa producción literaria muestra las primeras articulaciones entre las ideas de la Arabidad y la Hispanidad. Estéfano encontró en el Oriente árabe y en la España musulmana un espejo para reflejar la multiplicidad de aportes culturales que conforman la identidad del Nuevo Mundo. Unusually built between Eastern Arabia, Europe and America, Estéfano Habib’s figure is an extraordinary example of multiple identities. Since 1925, he became a public speaker and a promoter of the Arab cause in the American territory. His limited but representative literary work shows the first interconnections between the Arabization and the Hispanisation processes. Estéfano found a mirror in Arab World and the Muslim Spain, which showed the multiplicity of cultural contributions that construct the New World’s identity. This investigation pretends to observe the content of his proposals in the intellectual and historical context of the period.
