Frontera y órdenes militares en la Edad Media castellano-leonesa (Siglos XII-XIII)

Abstract

El estudio presenta una breve panorámica del papel de las órdenes militares castellano-leonesas en la formación y consolidación de la frontera del reino con el Islam en los siglos XII y XIII. Ese papel tiene una triple dimensión –militar, colonizadora y estrictamente política– y sólo es posible constatar su eficacia a raíz del afianzamiento territorial e institucional de las órdenes militares, es decir, a partir del primer tercio del siglo XIII

The survey presents a brief view of the Castillian-Leonese military order’s role in the formation and consolidation of the kingdom’s border with the Islam in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. This role has a triple dimension –military, settler and strictly political– and it is only possible to show its efficiency from the territorial and institutional strengthening of the military orders, that is, from the first third of the thirteenth century
