Medievalismos para después de una guerra: El mito de la independencia de Castilla en la historiografía de posguerra (1936- 1960)

Abstract

El presente trabajo tiene por objeto estudiar la presencia del mito de la independencia de Castilla en la historiografía española de posguerra. Al hablar de este “mito” nos referimos al relato de carácter fabuloso que cuenta la secesión, supuestamente producida en el siglo X, de Castilla respecto del reino leonés. Este relato, cuyo origen está en textos medievales asociados a los reinos de Navarra y Castilla, tuvo una gran continuidad historiográfica que llegaría hasta el siglo XX. Tuvo especial popularidad entre los autores liberales españoles posteriores al 98, adquiriendo proporciones míticas. En el presente trabajo estudiaremos la evolución de este mito en los años posteriores a la Guerra Civil española y su utilización por parte de autores españoles y extranjeros, franquistas y liberales, en España y en exilio

The purpose of this research is to study the presence of the myth of Castile’s independence in the Spanish post-war historiography. When talking about this myth we refer to the fabulous tale of secession, supposedly dating from the 10th century, of Castile from the kingdom of Leon. This tale, whose origin is in medieval texts related to the kingdoms of Navarre and Castile, had a great historiographical continuity up to the 20th century. It had special popularity between the liberal Spanish authors subsequent to the year 1898, taking mythical dimensions. In this research we will study the evolution of this myth in the period following the Spanish Civil War and its utilization by Spanish and foreign authors, Francoist and liberal ones, both in Spain and in exile
