Las redes teosóficas de mujeres en Guatemala: la Sociedad Gabriela Mistral, 1920-1940

Abstract

El artículo trata sobre el papel que jugaron las mujeres guatemaltecas, organizadas en torno a una amplia red social, llamada «Sociedad Gabriela Mistral», durante las décadas de 1920 y 1930, en su afán por abrir espacios públicos en la prensa de la época, con el fin de generar una opinión pública favorable a la adquisición del sufragio femenino. Se resalta la importancia que el regeneracionismo español, el arielismo y la teosofía tuvieron en este proceso emancipador

The article deals with the role which Guatemalan women played in the decade of the nineteentwenties and the thirties. The Gabriela Mistral Society tried to open public spaces and to generate public opinion in the newspapers to obtain civil rights and the feminist vote. In this struggle, the ideas of the Spanish regenerationism, the arielism and the theosophy played an important role in the emancipation of the Guatemalan women
