Abstract

El redescubrimiento de Egipto a finales del siglo XVIII abrirá las puertas a un nutrido número de personajes en busca de aventuras y oportunidades. Entre ellos se encuentra la controvertida figura de Giovanni Battista Belzoni (1778-1823), quien durante los años que permaneció en el país del Nilo (1815- 1819), no sólo llevó a cabo importantes descubrimientos como las tumbas de Seti I y Ramsés I, sino que adquirió, bajo el auspicio del cónsul inglés, Henry Salt, gran cantidad de piezas que hoy forman parte de colecciones públicas y privadas

The rediscovery of Egypt in the late 18th century marked the arrival of a large number of people seeking adventures and opportunities. Among them was the controversial figure of Giovanni Battista Belzoni (1778- 1823) who, during the years he was living in the country of the Nile (1815-1819), not only did he conduct important discoveries such as the tombs of Seti I and Ramses I, but acquired, under the auspices of the English consul Henry Salt, a large amount of objects that today are in public and private collections
