Bollywood en Quismondo: Versiones del cine indio para la exportación, 1953-1962

Abstract

El planteamiento inicial de este trabajo consistía en un estudio comparativo de dos películas de la India dirigidas por Mehboob Khan —Maya (Aan, 1953) y Madre India (Mother India, 1957)— a partir de sus versiones originales y las estrenadas en España en esa misma década de 1950. En ambos casos se trata de películas en las que el metraje original se redujo considerablemente para su exhibición en España. Sin embargo, la inexistencia de material suficiente para este propósito obliga a redirigir la investigación hacia el caso particular de Madre India: las vías de distribución de la película y su circulación por diversas pantallas del país, así como los motivos (narrativos y políticos) que llevaron a reducir a la mitad el metraje de la versión íntegra original

At the beginning, the aim of this research was to compare two Indian films directed by Mehboob Khan – Aan (1953) and Mother India (1957) – considering their original versions and the ones showed in Spain theatres during the 1950s decade. In both cases, the length of these films was reduced considerably in order to be released in Spain. In spite of the original purpose of this research, there was no enough material for the comparative study. For this reason, eventually the research takes only Mother India as a case study and it focuses on how the film was distributed, on its exhibition in diverse Spanish theatres, and on the narrative and political reasons that reduced into a half the film’s original length
