Los problemas de la Inquisición en tiempos de Carlos II

Abstract

Las dificultades en la actuación de la Inquisición española durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVII han sido percibidas por todos los historiadores que han estudiado el tema. Don Antonio Domínguez Ortiz afirmaba que la Inquisición había entrado en crisis durante el siglo XVII. No obstante, no se ha explicado en qué consistió la “crisis” del Santo Oficio. Lo que se defiende en este trabajo es que la crisis de la Inquisición consistió en una lucha entre la Iglesia y la Monarquía por controlar la institución a través del predominio de una jurisdicción sobre la otra (eclesiástica o temporal), que era la composición de tan poderosa institución. Esta pugna se observa también a través del proceso de fray Froilán Díaz, los partidarios de la sucesión austríaca sintonizaban con la primacía de la jurisdicción eclesiástica de la Inquisición, mientras que los partidarios de los Borbones pretendían reducir la actuación de la institución a solamente el campo espiritual y quitarle todos los privilegios que los monarcas anteriores le habían otorgado

The difficulties in the action of the Spanish Inquisition during the second half of the 17th century have been perceived by all the historians who have studied the topic.
