La vida de Luis Guillermo de Moncada (1614-1672),
VII duque de Montalto, perteneciente a una de las familias
nobiliarias más importantes de Sicilia, estuvo marcada
por su continuado ascenso al servicio de la monarquía
española, ocupando relevantes cargos en Sicilia,
Cerdeña y España. Entre 1652 y 1672, fecha de su
muerte, ocupó distintos cargos al servicio de la monarquía
hispánica y la iglesia: virrey de Valencia, Caballerizo
Mayor del rey y cardenal. Damos a conocer los
encargos artísticos que realiza en Valencia y Madrid a
distintos pintores y escultores. Capítulo importante fue
el desarrollo de la genealogía familiar, plasmada a
través de la literatura, el grabado, pintura, escultura y
tapices. La almoneda que se efectuó después de su
muerte constituyó un acontecimiento notable en el
panorama artístico de la época, en el que se dio cita lo
más granado de la nobleza madrileña The life of Luis Guillermo de Moncada (1614-1672),
VII Duke of Montalto, belonging to one of the most
important noble families of Sicily, was marked by the
continuous rise in the service of the Spanish
monarchy, occupying significant positions in Sicily,
Sardinia and Spain. Between 1652 and 1672, date of
his death, he held various offices in the service of the
Spanish monarchy and the church: Viceroy of Valencia,
Caballerizo Mayor and Cardinal. We present different
artistic commissions that he performed in
Valencia and Madrid to different painters and sculptors.
An important chapter was the development of
his family genealogy, reflected through literature,
engraving, painting, sculpture and tapestries. The
auction, which took place after his death was a
remarkable event, attracting the best of Madrid aristocracy
