Abstract
Introduction: The concept of Gender Dysphoria (GD) has undergone a great evolution and has been widely criticized until the current definition was reached: a marked incongruence between the sex that one feels or expresses and the one that can be assigned, with a minimum of 6 months of duration and situating the age of appearance between 2-4 years. Objective: to know the perception that child and adolescents have about the health system, identifying the general profile of these, the comorbidity with mental illnesses and the role played by the nurse in their care. Methodology: a bibliographic search was carried out in the databases of PscyINFO, Pumed, Medline, CINAHL, as well as in the repository of Dianlet and Google Scholar, establishing a time limit of 10 years, written in English or in Spanish and related with child/adolescent population. Results: 19 articles related to the establishment of the diagnosis, the barriers that this population perceives when accessing the health system and the implications in the mental health, in addition to those referring to the privileged position of the nurses in the care of this population. Conclusions: gender dysphoria does not necessarily imply transsexualism. These young people do not receive adequate care due to the lack of training of professionals, which may have repercussions on their mental health. Nurses will be in a privileged position to provide information and care to both minors and their families, thus contributing to an improvement in the quality of life.
