El I congreso internacional de la mujer (1970). La sección femenina de Falange se reinventa

Abstract

The International Women's Congress is a privileged framework to analyze the tensions that the Women's Section of the Falange experienced during the late Francoism. This event offers itself an ideal context for an in-depth study of the gender discourse articulated by the Women's Section in this time. It soon becomes clear that the contents and the limits of a socially acceptable model of womanhood they promoted shifted radically since the 1940s and 1950s. Besides the changes in their own ideology and sensibilities, the Francoist women activists acknowledged the need to adapt this model to the new experiences of Spanish women, brought about by the socio-cultural and economic transformation that the country underwent in this period. Researching the congress also allows us to study the strategies of opposition and resistance developed by the democratic and left-wing women's organizations, and the benefits and disadvantages of these strategies.

El Congreso Internacional de la Mujer es un marco privilegiado para analizar las tensiones que vivió la Sección Femenina de Falange durante el tardofranquismo. También ofrece un contexto ideal para estudiar en profundidad el discurso de género que sostuvo la Sección Femenina en este periodo, ya que los límites de su modelo de mujer socialmente aceptable fueron muy diferentes a los planteados en los años cuarenta y cincuenta. Aparte de los cambios producidos en el propio pensamiento de la organización, las falangistas sintieron la necesidad de adaptar este modelo a las nuevas vivencias de las españolas, que se habían visto modificadas por las transformaciones socioculturales y económicas que estaba experimentando el país. Además, la investigación del congreso permite estudiar las estrategias que desarrollaron contra el mismo las organizaciones de mujeres democráticas y de izquierdas, así como los beneficios e inconvenientes que estas actuaciones les desencadenaron.
