Syntactic-semantic retrospective of the French adjective I: From Antiquity to traditional grammars

Abstract

The present article guides the reader through an historical-theoretical framework of the French adjective. The study perspective focuses on the evolution of the French adjective from different linguistic points of view, namely, syntactic and semantic. We begin our journey from the Greco-Roman Antiquity to the so-called traditional grammars, going through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the seventeenth century, the Age of Enlightenment and the nineteenth century. This first article would have no reason to be without continuity in a second article with which we will culminate this retrospective of the French adjective through a timeline and certain contemporary studies of grammatical section

El presente artículo conduce al lector por un entramado histórico-teórico del adjetivo francés. La perspectiva de estudio se centra en la evolución del mismo desde diferentes puntos de vista lingüísticos, a saber, sintácticos y semánticos. Comenzamos su rastro desde la Antigüedad grecolatina hasta las llamadas gramáticas tradicionales, pasando por la Edad Media, el Renacimiento, el siglo XVII, el Siglo de las Luces y el siglo XIX. Este primer artículo no tendría razón de ser sin una continuidad en un segundo artículo con el que culminaremos esta retrospectiva del adjetivo francés a través de una línea temporal y ciertos estudios contemporáneos de corte gramatical
