Impacto en la sexualidad tras un traumatismo craneoencefálico

Abstract

Introducción: La sexualidad tras un traumatismo craneoencefálico (TCE) resulta olvidada y estigmatizada. Sin embargo, es una necesidad inherente y esencial en el ser humano y, por ende, los afectados necesitan satisfacerla al igual que el resto de la población. Objetivo: Analizar la evidencia científica acerca del impacto en la sexualidad de un TCE que genera un lesión cerebral en personas adultas. Metodología: Se llevó a cabo una revisión bibliográfica narrativa en ocho bases de datos, utilizando tanto lenguaje libre como controlado y combinándolos mediante los operadores booleanos “AND” y “OR”. La búsqueda se limitó a documentos publicados en los últimos 10 años y en los idiomas español e inglés. Resultados y conclusiones: Se seleccionaron 23 artículos, de los que se concluye que, tras un TCE que genera una lesión cerebral, se producen multitud de cambios biopsicosociales que afectan directamente a la sexualidad del individuo y a las personas que le rodean. Además, existen distintos factores que pueden determinar su desarrollo sexual y sobre los que es importante actuar. Las víctimas del TCE reciben muy poca educación afectivo-sexual tras el incidente y los profesionales sanitarios refieren una baja formación sobre el tema. Hay que continuar investigando sobre esta materia y el papel que la enfermera tiene en él.

Background: Sexuality after a traumatic brain injury (TBI) is forgotten and stigmatized. However, it is an inherent and essential need in human beings and, therefore, affected people need to satisfy it just like the rest of the population. Objective: To analyze the scientific evidence about the impact on sexuality of a TBI that generates a brain injury in adults. Methods: A narrative literature review was carried out in eight databases, using free and controlled terms and combining them through the boolean operators “AND” and “OR”. The research was limited to documents published in the last 10 years and Spanish and English languages. Results and conclusions: 23 articles were selected, from which it is concluded that after a TBI, a multitude of biopsychosocial changes occurs that directly affect the sexuality of the individual and the people around him. In addition, different factors can determine their sexual development and on which it is important to act. Brain injury victims receive very little affective-sexual education after the incident and health professionals report low training on the subject. It is necessary to continue researching this matter and nurse’s role in it.
