La inserción de mando y su grupo en el campo léxico de la ‘directividad’: de Plauto al latín tardío

Abstract

The verb mandare provides us with a good example of a semantic shift between two meanings that establish a paradigmatic relationship of lexical complementarity (petere and dare). From an etymological origin probably connected to the verb dare, this lexeme (and its derivatives commendo and demando), originally linked to the semantic field of ‘dative action’, finally fell under the influence of verbs such as petere or iubere, as demonstrated by the romance languages (for instance, fr. demander, it. domandare, esp. mandar). This paper, hence, tries to determine the conditions of use that brought about the development of directive meanings by those verbs
