En los convulsos meses que siguieron a la muerte de Fernando VII (1833),
una serie de reformas puso fin a la larga agonía que había llevado a los antiguos consejos
de la monarquía a sobrevivir embates hasta bien entrado el siglo XIX. Situado entre éstos
el Supremo Consejo de Indias, el estudio que aquí se propone tiene como primer objetivo
el examinar el contexto de elaboración de los seis Reales Decretos, de 24 de marzo de 1834,
–que recogieron la disolución definitiva de la polisinodia– para dimensionar en él el papel
jugado por ese consejo. En segundo lugar, se extraerán algunas de las consecuencias que
para el gobierno de las Indias tuvo la transición, entre ese supremo consejo y la sección de
Indias del nuevo Consejo Real de España e Indias, que marcó la cancelación definitiva de
la vía de gobierno por consejo de la monarquía católica Following the death of Ferdinand VII (1833), some political reforms put
an end to the ancient councils of the Spanish Catholic Monarchy. Located among them the
Supreme Council of the Indies, this study has as its first objective to analyse the elaboration
of the six Royal Decrees, of March 24, 1834, focusing on the role played by this council
in the final disintegration of the so-called polisinodial regime. Secondly, it will be examined
some consequences of the transition from that supreme council to the Indies section
of the new Royal Council of Spain and the Indies
