This paper’s goal is to figure out the symbolic meaning of Maurice Maeterlinck’s opera magna Pelléas et Mélisande according to Gaston Bachelard, Mircea Eliade and Gilbert Durand’s theoretical approaches. Concerning Bachelard, we will pay attention to his analysis of the relation between images and symbols in literature; we will also take into account Eliade’s theory of the consistency of symbols along the history of human psyche; and we will particularly consider Durand’s Poetic of the Imagining approach and his work The Anthropological Structures of the Imaginary

José María Merino has the support of both critics and audience, although the little attention received by another of his narrative facets stands out. We refer to his presence as a writer of short stories in the Spanish literature of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Among other works, in 1999 he published Cuatro nocturnos, a compilation of short stories followed by El lugar sin culpa in 2006. These texts were recently collected under the title El lugar sin culpa y otros nocturnos (2015). While it would be difficult to give a single reason for his daring to approach this other facet -rather uncommon in the author’s long career, we consider that the analysis of the peculiarity of these novellas, labelled “nocturnos”, merits closer examination. We also anticipate the suitability of comparative works comprising all his narrative production and even that of other authors

    Mundos imposibles: Autoficción
(Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 2016) Martín Jiménez, Alfonso
This article tries to explain autofiction (which occurs when the author lives verisimilar or non-verisimilar fictional events), as a breach of the fictional logic (metalepsis), with the consequent creation of impossible worlds. In addition, different types of autofiction are analyzed and explained through a textual model of literary genres

La lectura literaria ante el desafío digital
(Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 2016) Gullón, Germán
Literary theory must once again open its wings. Digital reading is asking for a place in our cultural podium. It demands its own status, a different one than that of the traditional reading on printed paper. We have to expand the concept of Humanities to the one of Digital Humanities, but sadly enough the majority of the research projects submitted for funding are loaded with requests for hardware and software, and very little is related to improve the interpretation of works of art, the principal task of the humanities. I propose a few ways for developing a new type of reading for the digital age, based on reading as experience, a way of reading that makes us confabulators. The meaning of the words is complemented by the multisensory elements mentioned in the texts, like images, colors and sounds, through the links of the hypertext. Also, we offer a few ways to improve our remembrance of literary digital texts

    Lyrica® (patología y tratamiento)
(Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 2016) García Rodríguez, Javier
This atheoretical text –a leaflet‒ is intended to be understood as a theory of Poetry. For this reason, an exercise of analogy and of “oblique” interpretation is necessary. At the same time a ludic reading is desirable. During the reading process the places of indetermination must be fulfilled by the reader in order to make projections of sense beyond the literal meaning. The characteristics of the original product could be perfectly adapted to the understanding of the theoretical principles, the effects produced on the users, and to the evolution of the different varieties in poetry along the history of this genre

El canon variable del verso español
(Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 2016) Domínguez Caparrós, José
The list of metrical forms differs from the list of rhetorical tropes and figures in their dependence on the prosodic properties of the particular language. The artistic function of meter in poetry explains its historical and conventional character. If two different attitudes, when describing the types of verses and stanzas (starting from a theory or looking at the reality of the poetic use), are added, the variable nature of the metric canon is understood. These ideas are illustrated with examples from different periods of the history of Spanish metric theory

Among other productions, the work of Roberto Equisoain includes a set of books of a singular strangeness. A strangeness that arises from the appropriation of texts from others who are subjected to unique text treatments, to different rewriting strategies, which returns them as new texts, while invoking the appropriate ones, to the field of reading. A reading that, in several cases, is problematic when not unreadable. Books, then, that put the concept of book in crisis

This essay aims to point out the differences between the theory of world’s model, as it is developed in my book Crítica y sabotaje (2011), and the theory of possible worlds carried out between the 70s and 90s by Petöfi, Dolezel or Albaladejo. Our main point is the following one: while theory of possible worlds pays attention to what is outside of the text, in a different “possible” world, the theory of world’s model keeps the text’s reference centered in the world. Along these pages we show how the theory of possible worlds depends on aesthetic ideology, while the theory of world’s model arises from a critical position toward that ideology

    Traducción e ideología
(Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 2016) Arduini, Stefano
This article analyzes the relation between translation and ideology. Based on an approach to the definition of ideology we get close to the boundaries where culture operates both in the translation process and in the relation between language and world

This article deals with the insertion of Borderlands/La Frontera. The New Mestiza in the theoretical framework of ectopic literature proposed by Tomás Albaladejo. As a result, a new possibility of this sort of literature is introduced. On the other hand, it is suggested that the concept of ectopic literature elucidates the notion of Gloria Anzaldua’s third country as a metaphor of the author’s cross-border literature. Thus, her literature aims to blur what she has referred to as an unnatural boundary and introduces, as a consequence, a new transcultural cartography
