Abstract
When the elderly people who live in rural environments start losing their independence and need help, it is produced a role break and break of the activities they carried through. Many times this means the necessity of adaptability to new environments, which frequently implies a move to their children’s home in order to receive the attention and care they need. Not only do this impliy a change in coexistence but also a different habitat from the rural one, which means a double adaptation.
Those elderly people find themselves in an unknown environment, with residences different from the rural one, whose space is more limited. Besides, their arrival implies a redistribution of the family space, being sharing bedroom something frequent. This fact results in a loss of privacy and in a feeling of nuisance.
So that, the aim of this investigation project is to know the experience of those elderly people that, as a consequence of their deterioration, have to leave the rural area to live with their children in the city. In addition, another aim of this study is the identification of the necessities and problems of adaptation that this change of environment produces.
This, is a cross descriptive study with a qualitative methodological approach under the point of view of phenomenology. The elderly people who meet the criteria of inclusion of the Mar Baltico, Chopera and Alcobendas health centres will be recruit for this study. The data will be obtained through interviews. It is the frequency of this issue in society what gives to this study such importance.
